Day One
Sept 25, 2008 7:27:37 GMT -5
Post by Merestil Haye on Sept 25, 2008 7:27:37 GMT -5
Right now I don't know who to vote for; and I have 1 hour remaining.
If I had a case with even one reasonable pointer I'd go that way, even if it was someone with no other votes. Unfortunately I don't.
Peeker is correct in saying that drawing a Miller role sucks, because of the sentiment expressed earlier by several people, namely "We have to lynch him sooner or later, so let's get it over with." A miller is a Townsperson who weakens the Town. Not a happy thought to be one.
A Miller claim on Day 1 strikes me as a null tell; scum want to do it because it's a perfect claim for them to hide in plain sight; but a genuine Miller doing so means the debate is held on Day 1 when we often don't have much else to talk about. The reactions to Peeker's claim will hopefully bear some fruit later, when we find out what his true alignment is. Also, as we are only on Day 1, we can absorb the loss if he is a Miller more easily than a few Days down the road, when we might be close to losing.
This does suggest that lynching Peeker might be the correct thing to do Today, even if we accept his claim. But a pro-Town reason to lynch a Townsman reduces (if not eliminates) the quality of the information we might gain from this argument.
On the flavour of his role, it does support the hypothesis that the main anti-Town elements are Apocalypse and the Four Horsemen; and one of the traditional four horsemen is Pestilence. A spreader of disease. Peeker's role could be as he says, or he could be Pestilence, here to spread the Legacy virus. No help there. He could even be a Mad Bomber role, winning when enough people have the virus.
As far as Molefan goes, I've become more suspicious of him overnight. His rolename's flavour really really pushes me towards concluding he's a serial killer. Another plausible one is that he's the angel of Death. Ardent was, after all, a hired killer and only a hired killer.
I'm still having problems with why he'd have claimed the way he did if he was non-Town, though. His dance of the seven veils seems almost designed to draw suspicion, and why would a non-Town do that?
Answer : has anyone read The Mysterious Affair at Styles? The murderer tries to draw suspicion, get tried and acquitted. It's a gambit Molefan might be trying if he were non-Town, but (I guess) only works if he survives to hand out his candy.
30 minutes gone typing all that waffle, and I'm no nearer getting a decision on who to vote. So I'm just going to watch and wait.
That's correct; I am abstaining. I can still vote, though; and I'm watching the lot of ye for last-second shenanigans.

I actually made it back before the deadline, which I didn't think I would. I see that there's a rush to lynch peeker over molefan, which on the one hand worries me, but on the other hand I'm kinda glad to see. I received the follow up from story that I was waiting for, and have an additional piece of information that I can share. My role PM strongly implies that there is a roleblocker of some variety out there, which traditionally millers usually are. On the flip side, molefan's candy certainly fits with a roleblocker type role.

I'm a mutant. In fact I'm going to go farther than that and make a soft claim of sorts now. You all remember in Apocolypse how our illustrious mod story could create zombies? I can do that too. I will not be revealing at this time what said zombies do, or what triggers my ability to create said zombies, or much of anything else about said zombies. But just in case there's a zombie showing up in the morning, I don't want people freaking out and throwing scum accusations around. Ya know, kinda like what story went through, which I'm sure is where he came up with the basics behind this role. (I say just in case because my role PM does not make it clear whether or not the zombies being raised is public, and story did not have an answer for me when I pm'd him to ask. Since I don't think I'll be around again before the Day ends, better to get this out there now rather than after the fact, since no strat talk at Night.) Sounds like a Necromancer-type role. The only games I've played in with a role like that...the Necromancer was always a PFK (with the win condition being: Once there were more zombie's than living players, the Necromancer wins).

Then you need to go read Apocolypse, where story was given a role that created zombies that was very much town aligned. And he got heat for it, which is why I came out early. I would hope people have learned not to jump to conclusions regarding a role based on color.

I wasn't, and I did read it. I read all the games on here or the SDMB...I'm just saying, just because there was one good one (and one bad one) of that kind of role doesn't mean it's going to be the same of one or the other. The only point I was making is "just because his was good doesn't mean yours is, although it works the other way too (with the bad sort)--so really it's a null thing.

UATU GIVES NOTHING; HE ONLY OBSERVES.
AND HE OBSERVES, NOW, THE ALIEN SUN FALLING BELOW THE HORIZON OF SKRULL PLANET. HE OBSERVES THE ATTENTIONS OF THE ASSEMBLED MOB FALLING ON ONE UNLUCKY VICTIM.
HE OBSERVES THAT, IF HE WRITES THE ENTIRE DUSK POST IN CAPITAL LETTERS, HE WILL HAVE TO MOD-KILL HIMSELF JUST FOR BEING ANNOYING.
DAY ONE IS OVER, AND VOTING IS CLOSED. DUE TO THE CLOSENESS OF THE VOTING, DUSK COLOR IS NOT PRE-WRITTEN, SO EXPECT A PAUSE OF ABOUT FIFTEEN MINUTES.
THANK YOU.
