Hey, didn't you see my post up there where I asked Idle Thoughts to change how my name looked in light of the people using Firefox? Geesh! On the other hand, you have changed your name to Blam Blam Blam Blam, which is going to be a PITA to type out every time someone's trying to make a point, so I'd say you're batting .500 at this stage. -------------- So we're basically halfway through the Day, and general strategy / Genius strategy discussion and talk about the color of usernames aside, we're really not making too much progress. Someone has to break the ice a bit. I'm going to vote drainbead. I have very little confidence in this vote. However, her weirdly specific smudge of MadtheSwine gave me modest pause, and she never responded to my previous post on the subject, so what the hell. Out of curiosity, what do you mean by "weirdly specific"? If anything, a vague weird feeling was all that I was acting on with my post. I tend to just say whatever comes into my head in these games, and so far it's the only thing that has jumped out as even remotely weird to me. Had his recent demise in M5 not been so fresh in my mind, I may not have even found it noteworthy. Maybe if I'd realized that there had been some sort of long history of MTS voting for Kat, I wouldn't have found it weird either. I didn't FOS him or vote for him based on what was essentially a gut feeling, and I was pretty sure that all my comment was going to do was get MTS to participate a bit more.

Out of curiosity, what do you mean by "weirdly specific?" Well, at the time you made the post, several people had voted. None gave justification any better than Mad's. Some cited random.org, others voted for silly goofy reasons (you, yourself, just placed a vote for a silly, goofy reason only a few posts ago). But out of all of those votes, the one you singled out for mention was MadtheSwine's. This seems very specific - like you were looking to smudge him and jumped on the first available reason to do so. This is all fair enough, but - and this comment is pretty much intended for everyone, not just in relation to this particular case - I'm not sure there's a real qualitative difference between describing your suspicions of someone and "FOS-ing" them. A post in which you point the finger of suspicion at someone is an FOS, whether you say that explicitly or not. I tend to look with some skepticism on those who rely on this utterly nonexistent distinction as a defense. If I read, "I didn't vote for him! I didn't even FoS him!", and find myself thinking, yes, you did, you just didn't put it in yellow, chances are I will think of it as a bit disingenuous.

I didn't even FoS him!", and find myself thinking, yes, you did, you just didn't put it in yellow, chances are I will think of it as a bit disingenuous. I guess it's just that when I see a vote, even a random vote at the beginning, I like to see a reason for it. I hate a post that just says "vote ____." If you had time to wait for the votee to respond, and then to reply to THAT, you had time to put your reasons in your first post and then go to bed. Like I said earlier, the way he did what he did just seemed very unnecessary. Had it been just a "Vote Kat, because I always do," and then nothing else, I wouldn't have thought it was a big deal. It would have then been a random vote just like the rest of them. The way he said it, with the "I won't be adding more tonight," implied that there was more than randomness to it, and that he would add it after he got some sleep...but if that's the case, then why not add it in the original post, if you have time to wait for a response and then respond to that? I guess I just get wary of people holding back info, however slight or meaningless it is. And I, as a player, see talking about something as the lower end of the spectrum, something below FOSing or voting, but still allowing people to discuss things they find a bit hinky. I find it less hinky now that I know the explanations for it, and the fact that there might be other explanations I didn't realize (like the apparent history of Mad and Kat voting for one another) is why I didn't feel that it deserved a FOS. Talking without FOSing is a good way to articulate vague thoughts and get other people's input on them. Needless to say, I'm much less suspicious of MTS now than I was when I said that, so I think it's helped me. I find getting things out in the open is the best way for us to gain information about one another.

Blamblam-- you're headed for a posting record, giving my M4self and Gadarene a run for the money. Trying to confound the statisticians? Some low posting people here-- looks like MHaye announced that he's be low participation, and looking at dnooman's scant posts, looks like they've all been late evening, my time, so perhaps he doesn't have access from work or is in a funny timezone like Japan or something. Otherwise everyone looks within a middlin' range. Report in, you guys! I don't think we should get all over lurkers just for lurking since people have lives (well, OTHER people do) but after we should have just chucked Auto overboard in the first place. . . [paragame] If Auto were playing, what do you think he's sound like? A clinician? Shudder. Ok-- what's up with karma points? Are these just for color or are we encoding secret messages in our exhaltations and smitings? Have we come to any concensus (or even discussion) of what they're "for"? [/paragame]

Now, my multi-quote function isn't working at all! I can add the quotes on the thread page and they show up on my "View Quotes" list, but I can't insert them into my post. So, anyway, both of these are from drain bead: The thing I find funny (funny/amusing, not funny/suspicious) about this is, Mad's original vote, even without him giving an explanation, strikes me as being likely to come across as understandable to someone not familiar with the Mad/ Kat interaction history, since I came thisclose to threatening to vote for him in my first post (if I weren't me, and this was my first game, I might have read it that way, anyway). Someone following the previous games would probably have gotten the joke, but a new person might have seen it as an unprovoked attack on someone who hadn't even posted yet (hence my parenthetical explanation), and read Mad's vote as a revenge vote (aka OMGUS vote), which, although I dislike them (see traditional "Revenge votes are baaad" post) aren't scummy to my mind (unhelpful but not scummy). My impression right now: drain bead didn't read my first post that closely (or at all), or forgot about it by the time Mad voted. Because otherwise, why call him out and not me?#nosignature#

Okay, it's time for me to get nasty and vote.
Skimming over the last couple of pages, I started to get the impression that a couple of people are doing the "post-but-don't-contribute" thing. I strongly got that impression from dotchan who I'll cover in a minute, but when I reread the total thread, checking the actual posts and contributions, I come to the following decision:
Vote Greedy Smurf. 4 posts total. Two fluff, one not knowing what to do & agreeing with BlaM's assessment about scum day discussion and one agreeing with storyteller's suggestion of discussion topics. That's it. Greedy needs to get in here and start posting up a storm.
dotchan's had 12 posts total, 6 are game-related (stretching that a bit to include comment about coloring vote as "game-related"). I'd like to see more from her, too.
There may be more people who are laying low but those are the two that caught my attention as being un-noticed. nesta's name caught my eye as I was scanning the thread, but then I skimmed a couple of her posts while I was checking out Greedy and they looked like they had some substance. I give her history a once-over after dinner, though.#nosignature#

Gir!'s mild suspicions: I like being chatty. It gets people to react, and that gives us information. I've been rather light on content because it is only Day One. I'll have to re-read and take active notes (right now I'm skimming threads in between doing homework) to do a full analysis, but as a whole I tend to consider myself as the only confirmed innocent--but, on the other hand, I don't like jumping on bandwagons unless I'm more certain that someone is scum. (In otherwords, I'm paranoid AND indecisive. Whee! ;D) That said, unvote and vote Malacandra for not having posted at all in this thread. The masses demand data!

I came in and read dotchan's post and was just shocked, thinking "How could I miss him not posting at all, after jumping on someone with 12 posts???"
Mal's posted 4 times, 1 fluff post, the other 3 game-related, and not bad stuff either. 5 and 6 whole lines of discussion. (That's not sarcasm, either. Well, not much. ;D Comparatively, Greedy's got 2-liner game posts and dotchan's in the running with 4-liners.)
Oh, and in regards to my previous mention of nesta, she's got the same record as Mal. 1 fluff post, 3 game posts, 5-6 lines long.
Not that I'm counting lines so much, but it matters a little. Mal and nesta have some discussion to consider in their posts. dotchan's got one post that puts in a bit of substance. Greedy's longest game post seems to just be a restatement of an argument by BlaM.#nosignature#

Ok, I did a full reread of the thread.
1) I think the random thing has been settled, always nice to have that out of the way.
2) I agree that the Geniuses should not actively pursue a Genius win, as that hampers the possibility of a town win.
3) Nobody has brought up any theories about how many crazies there might be (unless I missed it). I have to assume that there are far fewer of them than the sane people, right?
Nobody has jumped out as being suspicious to me yet. Yet...

I did skim the first page a bit, I'll admit. Usually the first page is meaningless until much later, if at all. Plus, your post actually has, you know, words in it other than "vote MadTheSwine." You made a joke and not a vote, he made a vote with nothing that resembled a joke that I could see without fully knowing the story behind it. It makes sense now that I know. Of course, that puts me back at square one when it comes to finding scum. It seems like an inordinate number of posts in this thread so far are of the fluff variety. We only have what, two days to come up with someone to lynch? Absolutely nobody is jumping out at me. Unvote BlasterMaster, btw. It's getting too late for joke votes.#nosignature#
