I thought it was discussed earlier that the game wasn't over until the MPP and all recruits were also dead. Also, I did recant my thoughts on fake-claiming, because--as I pointed out--I didn't think it through enough. How could there be any recruits if the MPP is dead today? Who would do the recruiting? Ed said the sampling/recruiting takes place at dusk, i thought...

Idunno, I'm going off of previous discussions. Maybe, once sampled (which all happened on N0), the recruitment is an automatic process.

It really does look messy, even compared to the first version of this game. It would have been sufficient for the MS to administer the vaccine to Red toNight, the Town Drunk to investigate him, and for Red to self-protect. A negative, or no result from the TD would be sufficient to clear Red of all suspicion and the MS could use their power elsewhere. There would have been no need to involve the recruitable Psychoanalyst as the MS's vaccination took effect immediately. I think the change in mechanics affects game balance in scum's favor.

Ed said the sampling/recruiting takes place at dusk, i thought... From the rules: As the game begins, there is only one Pod Person in Pleasanton. The Master Pod Person (MPP) wants to capture and sample townsfolk so that more Pod People can be created. This sampling process takes time, and leaves behind chemicals in the blood of the sampled townsfolk. Once a townie has been sampled, it's only a matter of time before he or she is replaced by a Pod Person unless killed before the final sampling and replacement can happen. The MPP will choose a list of townspeople to sample during Night 0. This list cannot be changed once it has been created. If recruits are killed before they are replaced by a Pod Person, the MPP is out of luck. Two town roles cannot be empodded. If the MPP chooses one of these two players, the MPP is out of luck. The town cannot win without killing all the Pod People AND all of the recruits. If all Pod People are killed but there are still recruits alive, the recruits will still progress and eventually final sampling and replacement will happen./snipped and added underlining

Oh criminy, that borked it up, didn't it? Sometimes the code tag works, other times it blows it all to hell. Sorry about that.

guiri, thinking about your plan for Tonight--there's one thing that can REALLY blow a hole in it: what if the Psych gets recruited Tonight? We have no way of knowing if the psych is a pod or not, unless the TD manages to investigate him and say he's been sampled.

Thanks! Just wanted to make sure my vote on Jan wasn't going to get Red killed or cause a tie somewhere.

Nah, no danger of any ties now unless there's a huge revoting spree. So unless Sturmhauke has something to claim, that's probably not going to happen.

I am assuming that if X becomes a pod tonight, then if the shrink investigates X, he'll get positive and if the drunk investigates X, he'll get negative. Is that correct?

That's how I'm understanding the role descriptions, yes.

So if the MPP got lucky and turns the shrink into a pod tonight, we'll never know it. I think it makes sense for everyone to focus on RedSk tonight, but to only report results in the case of pod or future pod. I'm thinking if we don't see dead power roles in the morning and no one reports anything, that I will assume for the moment that RedSk is clear.

NETA: And we happen to lynch a podded shrink later on, we'll revisit this.

I don't have anything to claim, I'm just a regular Citizen. Maybe if you guys are lucky I'm a recruit and my burning is necessary anyway, but obviously I have no idea.
A false claim from Red is somewhat unlikely but not impossible, I think. I still think the NP might be better hidden at this point. Paranoia is looking hinky for leading the wagon on me for very little reason that I can see.
